Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 To Contribute Massively To Qualcomm’s Profits In Q4 2024, With Shipments Said To Grow 50 Percent Compared To Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

The Dimensity 9400 will not deter Qualcomm from ensuring that the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 becomes a success, as one analyst predicts that the chipset will not just be the company’s most expensive release to date, but it will also generate the most profit. Shipments of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 are estimated to be 50 percent higher compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, meaning that the San Diego firm is expected to enjoy a revenue boost, leading to a healthy profit generation.

Analyst believes the high price of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, increased demand from Samsung, and more, will be reasons for the profit increase

During the fourth quarter of 2024, TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo states in his latest Medium blog that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will see around 9 million shipments, with the average selling price (ASP) metric seeing a 15 percent bump because the chipset is estimated to be priced at $180 per unit. This figure, not to mention increased demand, will pretty much guarantee that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will become a massive revenue-generating machine for Qualcomm, but Kuo highlights other factors that will contribute to the success of SoC.

For instance, Samsung is said to have ordered a large shipment of Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipsets, likely because the Galaxy S25 series launch will happen early next year and will exclusively use Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship SoC. Based on the latest rumor, the Korean giant will not use the Dimensity 9400 in the base model, and its 3nm GAA yields are too low to justify the mass production of the Exynos 2500. Additionally, there has been a recovery in overall smartphone shipments, with a higher proportion of Chinese brands launching models sporting the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which will further contribute to Qualcomm’s revenue.

There is also a rumor that Qualcomm will eventually launch the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, a slower and most likely affordable version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, in Q1 2025. Phone partners who believe that the company’s flagship SoC is priced too high could have an alternative available, albeit with a few compromises. However, we are not counting out MediaTek and its Dimensity 9400, which will have endless opportunities to undercut Qualcomm and take away its market share in the coming months.
