Snoop Dogg kicks off breakdancing’s Olympics debut in epic fashion

Breaking, a.k.a. break dancing, kicked off its inaugural appearance as an Olympic sport in style.

Snoop Dogg opened the competition Friday at Place de la Concorde in Paris via the coup de baton, when a wooden baton is struck on the floor to signal an event’s commencement.

Dressed in a red, white and blue tracksuit, the Grammy-nominated rapper — who has been making the most of his time in Paris and reportedly earning $500,000 per day as an Olympics correspondent for NBC and Peacock — accessorized with colorful kicks as the festivities got underway.

Men and women will compete separately at the Paris Games, with the “competition consist[ing] of battles between two athletes. Each battle consists of a number of rounds. In each round one athlete performs first, then the other responds,” according to the Olympics’ official website.

The women’s competition on Friday will conclude with a gold medal battle. The men will compete on Saturday.

Team USA’s breaking team is comprised of two b-boys, Jeffrey Louis and Victor Montalvo, and two b-girls, Sunny Choi and Logan Edra.

It’s been quite the summer for Snoop Dogg, 52, who kicked off his experience at the Games by carrying the Olympic torch before the opening ceremony on July 26.

The rapper, whose real name is Calvin Broadus Jr., also provided commentary to a badminton match on July 28 between the U.S. and China.

In addition to his commentating duties, Snoop Dogg supported star Olympic gymnast Simone Biles and Team USA at Bercy Arena, where the group earned gold in the all-around final.

His moves also caught the attention of Biles and her teammate, Jordan Chiles.

Beyond the gymnastics circuit, Snoop Dogg paid a visit to Château de Versailles, where he fed horses and watched the dressage in the equestrian competition with Martha Stewart.

The 2024 Olympics conclude on Sunday with the closing ceremony.
