MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – Snowbound Books in Marquette is celebrating National Independent Bookstore Day and its 40th anniversary every day this week.

The bookstore is hosting a spirit week with themes like Silly Socks Day, Plaid Day, and Book Character Dress-up Day. If you participate, you can get 10% off select books and items. The week will end on Saturday with an all-day celebration including giveaways, activities, and a visit from the Dia De Los Tacos food truck.

Snowbound says it’s essential for people to support their local small businesses.

“I think we’re an important part of the community,” said Dana Welshans, Snowbound Books owner. “I think books matter to people and if you can get a free cookie or something out of it then you should come on down, hang out, check out the books, and say ‘hi.’”

The party will be this Saturday at Snowbound Books from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
