Soccer tournament stirs up business for local dessert shop

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – The U.S. Youth Soccer Midwest Presidents Cup kicked off Friday at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls where the tournament is expected to attract around 6,000 people to Sioux Falls.

But it’s not just busier on the soccer fields, it’s also stirring up extra foot traffic at a nearby dessert shop.

Oh My Cupcakes! kitchen manager, McKenna Geringer, says they’re seeing more customers than usual.

“We get a huge inflow of people and we have things going on around town. People just want a little sweet treat they can get after playing soccer all day,” Geringer said.

With the tournament hosting teams from over 12 states, Geringer says she enjoys meeting new customers.

“It’s really fun just to see the different people that come in and from how far they’ve traveled. I know a lot of people travel from pretty far away for these soccer tournaments in town, so it’s just fun to see all the different people that we get from different areas,” Geringer said.

This weekend they even have deals for those wanting a special treat.
“We are also doing a sale on our cupcake parfaits, which is some crumbled-up cupcake frosting, more cupcake, and then frosting on the top. And those are one for $7.50, two for $12 or three for $15,” Geringer said.

Geringer says they’re prepared for the crowds who stop by after a sweet victory.

“So we bake our cupcakes fresh every day from scratch. Everything is entirely from scratch. We start baking at 3:30 a.m. in the morning and we don’t stop until we’ve got them all baked for the day,” Geringer said.

The soccer tournament will wrap up on June 18th.

Oh My Cupcakes! is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. every day except for Sunday.
