NOTES

SERIES HISTORY: The University of North Alabama soccer team (3-5) has met the Austin Peay Governors (3-4-2) four times before. The last matchup came in the 2023 season where the Lions were edged 1-0 on the road at APSU. UNA is 0-4-0 in this matchup with the first meeting coming in 2007, followed by a 14-year hiatus until APSU became a member of the ASUN in 2021.

ABOUT LAST GAME: UNA dropped its first ASUN road match to Queens on Sunday, 1-0. Queens scored the lone goal of the game in the 24th minute from junior defender Savannah Stuart off of the assist by fifth-year forward Girah Durant. North Alabama had a corner kick and two shots in the first three minutes before Queens got their own corner kick and shot a few moments later. After the initial surge from UNA, the Royals swooped in with a big first half having 11 shots to just two more in the half for the Lions. The Lions had a strong second half, doubling their shots from the first with eight total in the final 45 minutes. UNA had 10 corners for the game with six coming in the second half. For the match, UNA out-cornered Queens 10-3 and were slightly out-shot, 15-12.

SCOUTING THE GOVERNORS: The Governors are coming off a one and one split between Bellarmine and Eastern Kentucky. Bellarmine outshot APSU 16-4 in the game, but Austin Peay won 1-0 on a goal in the 53rd minute. The Governors dominated every category, including shots and corner kicks in the EKU matchup, but fell short as a goal came from EKU’s Gretta Gunn in the 77th minute. Overall, APSU is 3-4-2 on the year and 2-2-2 at home. Alec Baumgardt leads in five of the six statistics for the Governors — points, shots, goals, shots on goal and game-winning-goals.

BREAKING THE PATTERN…?:  This series has a pattern with 3-1, 1-0, 3-1 and 1-0 score totals. The first matchup came in 2007 and did not pick back up until UNA and APSU became ASUN foes in 2021. Austin Peay won 3-1 in the 2007 meeting and then won 1-0 in 2021. The 2022 and 2023 meetings were also decided by those score.
MILESTONE MARKER: UNA head coach Chris Walker is on the way to eclipsing the century mark for his career in wins. Since he has been at UNA, he has accomplished a 97-87-23 overall record in his 12 years and is three wins shy of his 100th career win. He is 14 away from tying former Lion head coach Graham Winkworth’s all-time record of 111 wins.

NEXT GAME: The Lions stick around in Tennessee to play Lipscomb on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. in Nashville, Tenn. This concludes North Alabama’s three game ASUN road trip that started against Queens.
