Sony Wants PlayStation IP to Be Recognized in Wider Entertainment Industry

Sony Interactive Entertainment boss Hermen Hulst has told BBC that the company wants to elevate PlayStation IP outside of video games in the wider entertainment industry. Sony Group is in a unique position to attain that goal with dedicated entertainment teams like Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions, and the company wants to capitalize on that.

God of War is the next major PlayStation IP getting a television show

God of War’s Amazon series suffered a bit of a setback recently as the departures of its showrunner and executive producers prompted a complete reset. However, Sony still seems bullish about the endeavor, and Hulst told BBC that he’s looking forward to that.

“I am hoping to raise the PlayStation IP outside of just the gaming category and elevate it so it sits comfortably within the larger entertainment industry,” he added.

PlayStation Productions has already helped to release two successful projects in The Last of Us HBO series and Uncharted movie. Despite the latter getting a lukewarm critic reception, it was a commercial success. TLOU, on the other hand, was both a critical and commercial success.

A TV show based on Hulst’s own baby, the Horizon series, is no longer moving forward at Netflix… for now, at least.
