Soprano Julia Bullock Joins Baroque Ensemble for Lobero Performance | Arts & Entertainment | Noozhawk
UCSB Arts & Lectures presents the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment with Julia Bullock, soprano, 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21 at the Lobero Theatre.
Star soprano Bullock will be joined by the Baroque ensemble Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (OAE).
Founded in 1986, OAE employs period instruments to realize historically-informed performances of rare beauty. For more about OAE, visit https://oae.co.uk/.
The evening’s program features showpieces by Vivaldi, Bach and Pachelbel alongside arias by Handel, Lully, Rameau and Purcell that highlight Bullock’s soprano voice.
Although Bullock is renowned for her performances of Baroque opera roles at such international venues as the Royal Opera House in London and the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, the UCSB Arts & Lectures program represents the first opportunity for U.S. audiences to experience this aspect of her artistry.
Ticket holders are invited to join A&L senior arts writer Charles Donelan at the Lobero before the concert at 6 p.m. for an introductory talk about the program and the artists.
Tickets are $68.50-$133.50; $22 UCSB students (with current student ID). For tickets or more information, call UCSB Arts & Lectures, 805-893-3535 or buy online at www.ArtsAndLectures.UCSB.edu; or The Lobero Theatre, 805-963-0761.
An American classical singer, Bullock has headlined productions and concerts at preeminent arts institutions worldwide.
Following her recent debut at New York’s Metropolitan Opera in “El Niño,” she will returns in the spring to star in the company premiere of “Antony & Cleopatra,” reprising her title role of Cleopatra from her first performance at Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu in the 2023 European premiere.
In concert, she has appeared with the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, NHK Symphony, Bavarian Radio Symphony and London Symphony Orchestra.
Recital highlights include appearances at New York’s Carnegie Hall, Boston’s Celebrity Series, Washington’s Kennedy Center, London’s Wigmore Hall and the Mostly Mozart and Ojai music festivals.
