Spectrum invests ,000 in learning lab to help residents find jobs

A big boost for residents of some Queens neighborhoods looking for jobs.

A ribbon-cutting was held Friday at the freshly upgraded Spectrum Learning Lab in the “Rockaway Development and Revitalization” headquarters on Mott Avenue.

The lab helps teach people in the community the computer and social media skills they need to get a job and build a career.

Various community leaders were on hand for the grand re-opening.

“The next generation, in those seats, will be the answer to cancer. Somebody in there has a cure to the cold. Somebody in there will solve AIDS. And the rest may walk on Mars,” Sen. James Sanders, a Queens Democrat, said.

“It definitely provides a space to go to, for sure, to use technology and things like that. And I learned a lot with program stuff I can use, you know, things you search up on the Internet to like help better editing,” Shaymar Campbell, a high school senior, said.

The $25,000 used to purchase new equipment and technology for the re-branded learning lab is part of Spectrum’s quarter of a million dollar investment in the effort.
