‘Spellslinger’ TV Show in the Works From ‘John Wick’ Director Chad Stahelski’s 87Eleven Entertainment (EXCLUSIVE)

A television adaptation of Sebastien de Castell’s “Spellslinger” fantasy book series is in the works from “John Wick” director Chad Stahelski‘s 87Eleven Entertainment and Basset Hound Distribution.

M. Raven Metzner, a writer-producer whose credits include “Star Trek: Discovery,” “Sleepy Hollow,” “Elektra” and “Clue,” will serve as showrunner and writer of the one-hour action-adventure series.

Metzner will also executive produce alongside 87Eleven’s Stahelski, Jason Spitz and Alex Young, as well as Basset Hound Distribution’s Michael R. Goldstein and Alexandre Coscas.

The “Spellslinger” show will be a one-hour action-adventure series based on the young adult novels by de Castell. The six-book “Spellslinger” series is complete, and there is a prequel series that begins with “Way of the Argosi.”

“Spellslinger” follows the adventures of 16-year-old Kellen, who lives in a world where magic is everything. The problem is: he doesn’t have any.

Per the logline, “When his paths cross with a swashbuckling adventurer from a mysterious sect called the Argosi on a mission to stop a continent-wide war, his life, world and family will be turned upside down. Bursting with tricks, traps, magic and a talking squirrel cat!”

Stahelski, who served as Keanu Reeves’ stunt double in “The Matrix,” went on to direct the actor in four “John Wick” movies. His 87Eleven banner is currently developing the “John Wick” series “Under the High Table” for Lionsgate, as well as “Highlander” with Henry Cavill; adaptations of “Ghost of Tsushima” and “Black Samurai”; and “Rainbow Six,” based on the Tom Clancy novel, starring Michael B. Jordan.

De Castell, who is also the author of the fantasy adventure book series “The Greatcoats,” is an author, musician, actor and teacher, among other things. His “Spellslinger” series was nominated for the Carnegie Medal and has been translated into more than a dozen languages around the world.

Metzner was the showrunner and an executive producer on Season 2 of Marvel’s “Iron Fist” on Netflix, and he co-created and executive produced ABC’s “Six Degrees.” His credits also include “Falling Skies,” “What About Brian” and “Heroes Reborn.”

Basset Hound Distribution is represented by IAG and Tom Collier of Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern. Stahelski and 87Eleven Entertainment are represented by WME, attorney Tara Kole and Mortimer PR. Metzner is represented by WME Entertainment and attorneys McKuin Frankel Whitehead.
