Sphere Entertainment has promoted Jennifer Koester to president and chief operating officer. She will oversee the company’s operations.

Most recently, Koester served as president of business operations. In this role, she led the strategy and implementation of Sphere’s business aspects.

In her expanded role, Koester will continue to work alongside Sphere’s executive leadership and the rest of the team to grow the business and oversee all operations.

Additionally, she will lead Sphere Studios, the immersive content studio in Burbank developing multi-sensory experiences for the Sphere entertainment venue in Las Vegas.

“Since joining our team earlier this year, Jennifer’s contributions have had a significant impact,” said James Dolan, executive chairman and CEO at Sphere Entertainment.

“We believe we are just scratching the surface of what is possible with Sphere, and her expertise will be essential as we continue to advance on our long-term vision for this next-generation entertainment medium.”

Koester has 30 years’ experience in technology, media and entertainment. She joined Sphere Entertainment earlier this year from Google.

“I welcome the opportunity to take on this expanded role,” said Koester. “Across the Sphere organization we are focused on both bringing unique experiences to life in Las Vegas, and developing new experiences that will keep Sphere at the forefront of immersive entertainment.

Growing the Sphere business

“I look forward to continuing to work with our world-class team to grow our business and deliver on Sphere’s vision for the future of entertainment.”

The new $2.3 billion Sphere attraction opened last September with a U2 show. Designed by stadium specialist Populous, Sphere is the world’s largest spherical structure. It boasts an exterior with 580,000 square feet of LED lighting.

Inside, it serves as a unique entertainment destination with immersive experiences, performances and competitions.

Earlier this year, Sphere Entertainment withdrew its planning application for a Sphere venue in Stratford, east London.
