Spirit Airlines expands destination options for spring break travel

SAN ANTONTIO – Have you booked a trip for your next vacation?

Spirit Airlines will offer travelers more destinations to visit during spring break.

In March, the airline will bring the San Antonio International Airport’s (SAT) first connection with San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU) and new options to Miami (MIA), New Orleans (MSY), and Tampa (TPA), according to a media release from SAT.

“More than two years ago, Spirit Airlines launched service to San Antonio International Airport with two destinations,” Jesus Saenz, director of airports for the City of San Antonio Aviation Department, said in a new release. “With the support of the community, Spirit has grown substantially, and we are thrilled to see air service continue to expand at SAT.”

What to know about the new flights to San Juan (SJU)

  • Start Date: March 5, just before spring break

  • Frequency: Three to four days a week, year-round

  • Departure from SAT: 4:37 p.m. CST, arriving at SJU at 11:37 p.m. AST

  • Departure from SJU: 11:12 a.m. AST, arriving at SAT at 3:32 p.m. CST

“The ties between our region and Puerto Rico have grown substantially in recent years,” Jacob Tyler, air service administrator for the City of San Antonio Aviation Department, said in the release. “Establishing nonstop service between SAT and SJU has been a priority, and we are excited to celebrate the launch of this flight with Spirit Airlines in March.”

Spirit Airlines will also expand services to other popular destinations in March, including:

  • New Orleans (MSY): Service launches Feb. 20, in time for Mardi Gras, through March 18

  • Miami (MIA): Seasonal service launches March 5-17

  • Tampa (TPA): Seasonal service resumes March 6-18

Spirit Airlines currently offers nonstop service from SAT to Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Las Vegas (LAS), Los Angeles (LAX), and Orlando (MCO). A new nonstop service to Atlanta (ATL) will launch on April 9.
