Sports anchor Kevin Holden says his time is up at Channel 58 in Milwaukee

Kevin Holden, sports director at WDJT-TV (Channel 58) in Milwaukee since 2009, disclosed on social media over the weekend that he has been told his stint at the CBS affiliate will be ending next month.

“I have been told that after 15 years that my time at Channel 58 is coming to a close at the end of September,” Holden said on a post on X on Aug. 16, recorded at American Family Field. “It has been an absolute dream to come into your homes to tell you stories to share the memories of all the great sports teams with folks here in Wisconsin over these past 15 years.”

Holden thanked viewers and followers on social media, and said he hoped to stay in Milwaukee.

“But I want to make sure to pass along that this isn’t necessarily a goodbye. You ask about the next chapter? I don’t know yet, but I can tell you that I’m a free agent as of the first part of October, and if it’s in the cards to stay here in Milwaukee and to continue to enjoy these Brewers and the Packers and everybody else, I’d certainly be glad to do it.”

Holden has been working as a TV sports anchor/reporter since 1997. He joined Channel 58 as sports director and sports anchor/reporter in 2009, following stints at stations in Orlando, Florida; Austin, Texas; Houston; Tupelo, Mississippi; and Dalton, Georgia.

In addition to serving as Channel 58’s sports director and working on the station’s newscasts, Holden has been part of the Spanish-language broadcasts of Brewers and Packers games on WDJT’s sister station, Telemundo Wisconsin. Two days after disclosing the news of his departure, Holden pulled double duty on Telemundo, calling the Brewers game against the Cleveland Guardians in the afternoon and the Packers’ preseason game with the Denver Broncos in the evening.

Holden is the second longtime Milwaukee sports anchor to announce his departure from local airwaves this summer on social media. Earlier this year, Lance Allan posted that WTMJ-TV (Channel 4) had “decided to let me go” after 28 years at the NBC affiliate. At the time, Channel 4, confirming Allan’s contract had not been renewed, said the sportscaster and the station had “mutually agreed that he will stay on air through August.”
