Sports Bar Floridaman Hits the Eastside Beltline Next Month

Starting next month, nights along the Eastside Beltline are getting a little more… Floridian. Alex Brounstein, Johnny Farrow (Grindhouse Killer Burgers), and Maximillian Hines, the team behind Breaker Breaker, will open Floridaman, a Gulf Coast-themed sports and dive bar, on the restaurant’s second floor.

The bar’s eponym is a persona used in news headlines to the point that it’s become a meme.

“Growing up in Florida, that was like every day,” says Farrow, the team’s resident Floridian. “There’s a lot of Florida man that happens along the Gulf Coast. It’s a fun thing that plays off what we’ve got.”

Floridaman’s atmosphere echoes Breaker Breaker’s, albeit with a more tropical feel. Patterned lounge furniture, overhead artwork and lighting installations, and tropical plants decorate the narrow space. Instead of crowding the service bar, seating will overlook the Beltline.

“Part of the vibe is when you’ve been at the beach all day and you get a second to drop the kids off, it’s like where the parents and the grown-ups go to hang out,” Brounstein says.

They’re still developing the drinks and promise two potent frozen cocktails on tap — most likely the Beltline Barbie and Mucho Nada. Expect a beer and wine list, as well as a few canned cocktails. As for food, think handheld foods and dips.

“We’re focusing on our greatest hits for upstairs and what makes sense,” Hines says. “Something that you’d like with a drink or beer.”

They’ll also have a Floridaman sandwich, the bar’s take on a Tampa Cuban with roasted chicken, ham, salami, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard, and mayonnaise.

921 Wylie Street Southeast, Atlanta.
