Sports Briefs: King reigns in Pacifics’ win over Drakes

Shortstop Braxton King hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning Tuesday night to lift the San Rafael Pacifics to a 4-1 home victory over the Marysville Drakes at Albert Park.

The Pacifics’ John Bicos and Mark Hernandez opened the ninth inning by reaching base on back-to-back Marysville errors. King then took a 2-1 pitch from Marysville reliever Bryan Krolikowski over the left-center field fence to give San Rafael (8-2) its third straight Pecos League victory.

Marysville (4-8) opened the scoring in the third inning when J.D. Leslie reached base on an error and later crossed home plate for an unearned run on a sacrifice fly. The Pacifics tied the game in the sixth inning when Xavier Selway led off with a double and later scored on a double steal.

Alex Valasek pitched a complete-game two-hitter for San Rafael, walking three batters and striking out nine. He had a no-hitter going until Jumpei Ohashi led off the seventh inning with a single.

San Rafael, currently in second place in the Pecos League’s Pacific Division, is scheduled to play at Vallejo on Thursday, then host Vallejo on Friday and Martinez on Saturday.
