Sports Briefs: Novato North All-Stars look to rebound after dropping section opener

A rally effort in the fourth fell short Thursday as the Novato North All-Star 11s fell to Lafayette Little League, 2-1 in the opening round of the Section 1 tournament at American Canyon.

Lafayette took an early 2-0 lead but Novato North mounted a comeback in the top of the fourth inning. With one out and the bases loaded, Brody Von Behren hit an RBI single to score Cyrus Bentaleb. Novato North stranded three runners as Lafayette them down. Enzo Martinelli led Novato North with two hits.

Novato is scheduled to play either Benicia or Dixon on Friday at American Canyon in a second-chance game in the double-elimination tournament.

Boys basketball

Archie Williams, Marin Catholic and Novato are scheduled to compete in the Mustang Summer Jam at St. Vincent de Paul in Petaluma on Saturday and Sunday. Each of the 12 teams in the tournament plays two games each day.

Golf

Peacock Gap Golf Club will host the third annual San Rafael City Championship on July 20-21. The 36-hole stroke play event will two scratch flights, (Men’s and Seniors Championship), and three net flights (Men, Women, and seniors).
