Sports briefs: Pacifics embarking on busiest stretch of the season
The San Rafael Pacifics embarked on their busiest stretch of the season starting with a late game on the road against Bakersfield on Monday night, beginning a stretch where the club plays 19 games in 20 days.
The Pacifics (11-2 Pecos League) entered that stretch tied for first place with Bakersfield. The Train Robbers defeated the Pacifics 9-2 in the first meeting of the season on May 31. Since then, San Rafael had reeled off six consecutive victories, including an 11-7 win against Vallejo on Friday and a 12-3 victory against Martinez on Saturday.
Starting pitcher Jayson Summers struck out 13 Sturgeon in a complete game to earn the win against Martinez. Aki Buckson went 3 for 6 at the plate to lead the way offensively. Buckson is hitting .464 since joining the club.
Mark Hernandez led the way against Vallejo, driving in six runs on four hits and scoring twice. Beau Dorman added three hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored.
The Pacifics return to Albert Park for a four-game homestand beginning on Thursday with another game against Vallejo.
