Sports briefs: Twin Cities, Mill Valley off to fast starts in Little League
Twin Cities and Mill Valley have started their District 3 Little League 11s All Stars campaigns with back-to-back wins as play kicked off this past weekend.
Twin Cities posted a 10-0 win against Novato North on Saturday and followed that up with a 14-1 win against San Rafael on Sunday night.
Mill Valley is also 2-0 following a 3-1 opening win against Novato South and an 11-6 victory against Gallinas Valley on Sunday.
Novato North, San Rafael, Gallinas Valley, and West Marin all sit at 1-1 through two games. Ross Valley and Novato South are off to 0-2 starts.
Four undefeated teams remain in the 11-team 9-10s tournament, which also kicked off on Saturday. Twin Cities and Mill Valley are both 2-0 there as well, with Twin Cities posting a 15-0 win against San Rafael plus a 11-3 win over Tiburon Peninsula. Mill Valley has a 15-0 win against Gallinas Valley and a 6-3 victory over West Marin under its belt.
Novato North also sits at 2-0 following a 2-0 win against San Francisco American and an 11-1 victory against Gallinas Valley. Novato South is 2-0 with a 6-4 result against Ross Valley and a 9-4 win against San Francisco American.
Tiburon Peninsula and San Francisco National are both 1-1. West Marin and San Rafael are 0-1. San Francisco American, Ross Valley, and Gallinas Valley have started out 0-2.
Baseball
John Bicos had two hits and drove in three runs — including a go-ahead single in the top of the ninth — as the San Rafael Pacifics picked up a 6-5 road win against the Vallejo Seaweed on Sunday night.
Chris Blyskal added two hits and two RBIs for the Pacifics (19-8 Pecos League). Vallejo (9-15) scored twice in the first inning but San Rafael tied the game following a two-run rally in the top of the third.
Vallejo retook the lead in the bottom of the third but San Rafael answered back with three runs in the top of the sixth for a 5-4 lead. Vallejo tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the inning.
San Rafael stretched its win streak to three with the victory. The Pacifics had an off day Monday before travelling to face the Dublin Leprechauns on Tuesday.
