Sports Briefs: Valasek goes distance as Pacifics roll
San Rafael fan favorite Alex Valasek improved to 5-0 this season with Thursday’s complete-game performance to help lift the Pacifics to a 14-6 victory over the host Dublin Leprechauns. The right-hander, also the pitching coach for College of Marin, is tied for the lead in the Pecos League in wins.
Mark Hernandez had three hits, while Esai Santos, Aki Buckson, Beau Dorman, and John Bicos each had two as the Pacifics (21-9) finished a 3-1 road swing. San Rafael, winners of five of the past six games, leads the Pacific Division by 4 1/2 games over Bakersfield. San Rafael is scheduled to host Vallejo at Albert Park on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Little League
Twin Cities and Novato North, both 4-0, remain as the only two undefeated teams in the District 3 All Stars 9-10s standings after Thursday’s action. Twin Cities earned a taut 1-0 victory over previously undefeated Mill Valley (3-1). Meanwhile, Novato North took an 8-7 win over San Francisco National (1-3) to remain in a first-place tie.
Novato South (3-1) also won, 14-4, over San Rafael (0-4) to position itself in a three-way tie for second place with Tiburon Peninsula and Mill Valley. West Marin (2-2) picked up a much-needed 5-3 win over Ross Valley (1-4). Gallinas Valley (0-4) suffered a 21-6 loss to San Francisco American (2-3).
• Twin Cities stands alone atop the District 3 All Stars 11s standings after Thursday’s 16-4 victory over Novato South (1-3). Mill Valley (3-1) rebounded from Tuesday’s loss with a 15-0 victory over West Marin (1-3). Novato North (3-1) scored a crucial 9-3 win over Ross Valley (0-4), and Gallinas Valley (2-2) earned a 3-1 victory over San Rafael (2-2).
