Sports card and comic shows return to Central Texas
TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) – Sports card and comic shows return to Temple consistently for the first time since the previous organizer passed away in 2018.
Terry Spagg was looking for something to do during his retirement when he decided to bring sports card and comic shows back to Central Texas.
“I just got a wild hair one day and decided ‘Let’s see what happens,’” Spragg said.
The shows feature vendors across Texas with different sports cards and comic book products.
Spragg organized two shows in 2024 and the success inspired him to hold them monthly in 2025. He relied on vendors met through other shows he attended.
Vendor, Bobby Bhatia, brought his sports card merchandise from his place of business in Houston.
“So I wanted to make sure that I could bring my collection to Central Texas and hope that people will say ‘Yeah we really do collect this stuff,’” Bhatia said.
Bhatia enjoyed getting the chance to sell to people in and outside of Central Texas.
“I think the vibe is the fact that not a lot of people here are actually from Temple,” Bhatia said. “They’re from Austin, they’re from Waco. Some people came as fair as Oklahoma and Missouri. So I think that’s the best part about it.”
Sprag said he’s received positive feedback from Central Texans excited to have shows near their residence.
“Most of the people that come in to the show have thanked me for putting it on because they had to travel to Dallas or Austin, places two hours away, to even go to a card show,” Spragg said. “And they’re just happy to have one here.”
Shows will be every month in 2025 at the Holiday Inn in Temple from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M.
