Sports Roundup: Golf Snaps Losing Streak, Field Hockey Wins Again

This Whaler sports roundup includes updates on the golf team and the field hockey team following wins, the volleyball team, the girls soccer team, and the boys soccer team.

Golf Back To .500 Following Road Win Over Sturgis West

The Nantucket golf team improved to 5-5 this season and snapped their three match losing streak with a 255-270 victory over the Sturgis West Navigators Thursday afternoon on the road.

Below are the scores for each Whaler golfer:

David Boulter – 40

David Foley – 41

The Whalers will attempt to improve to 6-5 when they host the Monomoy Sharks on Monday, September 30 at 3:45 p.m. at the Miacomet Golf Course.

Field Hockey Shuts Out Sturgis East

The Nantucket field hockey team continues to perform well this fall, improving their record to 6-1-1 following a 2-0 shutout road victory over the Sturgis East Storm Thursday afternoon.

Senior captain Suz Peraner (assisted by junior Carley Ray) and junior Clementine Kelly (assisted by junior Sadie Paterson) were the Whaler goal scorers. Nantucket’s shutout of the Storm was their fifth shutout of the season.

The Whalers will attempt to improve to 7-1-1 this weekend during homecoming when they host Martha’s Vineyard on Saturday, September 28 at 1 p.m.

Volleyball Loses To Dennis-Yarmouth 3-0

The Whaler volleyball team lost to the Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins 3-0 Wednesday afternoon. The sets were as followed:

Set One: 14-25 Dennis-Yarmouth

Set Two: 13-25 Dennis-Yarmouth

Set Three: 23-25 Dennis-Yarmouth

Senior outside hitter Rihanna Cranston led the Whalers with nine kills. Senior setter Bianca Santos led the team with 14 assists.

After winning their season opener at home against St. John Paul II 3-1, the Whalers have been the victims of a brutally tough schedule – losing seven straight games. They are now 1-7 and will try to right the ship and earn their second win of the year on Saturday, September 28 at home against Archbishop Williams at 1 p.m.

Girls Soccer Shutout By Nauset

The Whaler girls soccer team hosted the Nauset Warriors Wednesday afternoon and lost 2-0. It was the first loss of the season for Nantucket – dropping their record to 3-1-2 this fall.

They will try to get back into the win column on Friday, September 27 at home against the Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins at 4 p.m.

Boys Soccer Loses To Nauset

The Whaler boys soccer team lost to the Nauset Warriors 1-0 on the road Wednesday afternoon after allowing a goal in the final minutes of the game. It was Nantucket’s first loss of the season, and their record is now 2-1-3.

Nantucket will try to earn their third win of the season on Friday, September 27 on the road against the Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins at 4 p.m.

Friday, September 27:

The girls soccer team will be at home facing the Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins at 4 p.m.

The boys soccer team will be on the road facing the Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins at 4 p.m.

Saturday, September 28:

The girls soccer team will be at home facing Martha’s Vineyard at 11:30 p.m.

The volleyball team will be at home facing Archbishop Williams at 1 p.m.

The field hockey team will be at home facing Martha’s Vineyard at 1 p.m.

The boys soccer team will be at home facing Martha’s Vineyard at 1:30 p.m.

The football team will be at home facing the Sandwich Blue Knights at 3 p.m.

Sunday, September 29:

There are no games currently scheduled on this date.
