Spring sports and the importance of stretching
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – As the world warms up again, spring sports will begin heading outdoors for practice and matches. This brings the possibility of injury with it.
Doctors are stressing the importance of pre-game warm-up, especially after many of our bodies have been couped up indoors for the last few months.
You should be stretching your entire body, but doctors say if you are running low on time focus on stretching your legs.
“If you remember from back in school, our gym teachers always made us stretch,” said Dr. Atul Kaushal, physician and medical director with AmourCBD. “If you watch any professional sports on TV, even the pro athletes are stretching before games. So, what stretching does is it increases flexibility. Stretching is something we should be doing all the time anyway.”
If you do not have time before practice or a match, stretching after a workout can be even more beneficial for your body due to muscle warmth.
