St. George man wins Dubai World Obstacle Championships, sets world record

DUBAI — Nineteen-year-old Kai Beckstrand, of St. George, won the 2024 Dubai World Obstacle Championships on Sunday, setting an official world record in the process.

The international competition was staged Dec. 5-8 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

It marked the first time competing at the event for Beckstrand, who was joined by his younger brother Luke, 17. Both boys, along with their parents Brian and Holly Beckstrand, are veterans of the American Ninja Warrior television show, having each made several appearances.

On Sunday, the final day of the competition in Dubai, Kai Beckstrand first went head-to-head against fellow American Donovan Metoyer, of Kansas City. Beckstrand’s winning time was 23.802 seconds, a new world record that would be short-lived.
