St. George Shopping Center Undergoing MAJOR CONSTRUCTION!

A very well-known shopping center in St. George is officially shut down and under MAJOR construction. The shopping center that once saw K-Mart, Albertsons, Christensen’s, Kiddie Kandids, Radio Shack, Joann’s Fabrics, and more is currently being torn down. Now, the entire center will not be torn to the ground, but some portions already have. The easternmost stores that homed Radio Shack and Kiddie Kandids is now only rubble.

WHAT IS COMING?

This shopping center will be known as St. George Place and is set to become the new home of Hobby Lobby and REI. Hobby Lobby is an American retail company home for arts, crafts, home decor and more. Hobby Lobby will be located in the old K-Mart location. REI, which stands for Recreational Equipment Inc., is an American retail and outdoor services company with major sporting goods. This will be in the location that was formerly Albertson’s and the Restore Home Improvement store.

WHEN WILL ST. GEORGE PLACE BE OPEN?

The signs surrounding the St. George Place say they will be open in Fall of 2024, but with that only being a few months away, I don’t believe that to be accurate. There’s A LOT of construction and clean up that is set to happen soon.

Some buildings, like the old bank/ Dixie Nutrition, Kiddie Kandids and Radio Shack have been torn completely down, while others won’t be torn completely down, but definitely redone. I have to admit, it is a little jarring to drive by and see the place that has been standing for the past 30 years, torn down. There have been so many childhood memories in this parking lot!
