Staunton Crossing to install utilities for potential businesses

STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) – The future business park in Staunton is already home to hotels and retail organizations, like Waffle House and Chipotle. In 2016, the Staunton Crossing Partners bought 25 acres of the land to start some development in the business park. Now, the city is closer to allowing businesses to move into the site, which used to be the home of the Western State Hospital.

The city demolished the old hospital in 2022, 13 years after the land was purchased. Billy Vaughn, Director of Community Development for Staunton, said the city hopes to attract permanent business with Staunton Crossing.

“It’s long-term, the city is not looking to take any type of potential use that comes to us,” Vaughn said. “They are looking for uses that will generate quality jobs but also machinery tools tax. Those revenues you need to provide services to the citizens of the city.”

The Staunton Crossing park is located near the intersection between the I-81 ramps and Route 250, Richmond Avenue.

When people get off the interstate and head toward the city of Staunton, the turn where the Wendy’s is located is the beginning of the business park. A roundabout has recently been built along with the main road of the future business park.

“For companies who are looking to sort of be in the middle of the Mid-Atlantic, for companies who want to make sure they have easy access to their customers, Staunton Crossing is a prime site,” Vaughn said.

Vaughn said Staunton’s location is unique and strategic for future businesses and the city of Staunton.

With Virginia located in the center of the Mid-Atlantic region and has a direct connection to the Port of Virginia, Vaughn said businesses will be able to transport goods across the eastern seaboard with ease with the business park
