Steph Curry? Cardi B? North Jersey has been hit by celeb sightings with more to come

play

Heading to the American Dream mall in East Rutherford for back to school shopping? You might bump into Cardi B. Or perhaps grabbing an early morning coffee at your favorite local café in Morristown? Maybe you’ll crack a joke with Adam Sandler.

Celebrities have been popping up all over North Jersey lately, and we’re not talking about on-stage at MetLife Stadium or Prudential Center.

A-listers have been spotted in the Garden State scouting out spots for their latest movies, taking part in sporting events, signing books or simply grabbing a cup of coffee. And the surge in star sightings doesn’t seem to be letting up anytime soon — so practice your composure, just in case.

Golden State Warriors star and two-time MVP Steph Curry was the latest to grace North Jersey with his presence, but it wasn’t to show off his basketball skills. Find out why he popped up and what other celebrities have been spotted, as well as who may be in your neighborhood soon.

Steph Curry at the Ridgewood Golf Club, Paramus

Curry, widely regarded for his 3-point shooting prowess in the NBA, hosted his annual Underrated Golf Tour championship from Sept. 2 to Sept. 4 at the Ridgewood Golf Club in Paramus.

The basketball superstar happens to excel at several sports: Golf Digest argues Curry is the best celebrity golfer, and even said the athlete’s wish to one day play on the PGA Tour Champions “isn’t ludacris.”

In 2022, Curry launched the Underrated co-ed junior golf tour, a multiday conference “created to provide a positive, competitive, safe space environment for culturally diverse male and female junior golfers,” according to the event’s website. The conference consists of four tournaments across the United States, which culminated in the Championship Curry Cup in Paramus.

Cardi B, Kim Kardashian and Lil Uzi Vert at American Dream Mall, East Rutherford

With a rash of celebrity sightings over several months, the American Dream megamall in East Rutherford has officially been cemented as an A-list hotspot.

Cardi B, one of rap’s biggest stars, has been spotted at least four times at American Dream since 2020, the latest on Aug. 31 when she and her estranged husband and rapper, Offset, hosted a 3rd birthday party for their son, Wave.

The “Up” hitmaker, who owns a home in Tenafly, has been vocal about her love for the epic megamall and once called it the “best place in the world.”

Cardi and crew — she also shares daughter, Kulture Kiari, 6, with Offset, who has three children from prior relationships — have been spotted in the mall’s waterpark and amusement park section. Cardi is also a fan of the mall’s array of food, posting on her Instagram stories following her son’s party how much she enjoyed the cuisine catered by MrBeast Burger and Yard House.

In June, Reality star and socialite Kim Kardashian threw an 11th birthday for daughter North West, whom she shares with rapper and ex-husband Kanye West, at the mall. She first visited in 2022 and called American Dream the “coolest mall ever.”

In 2022, Rapper Lil Uzi Vert took in the rides at the giant mall’s Nickelodeon Universe amusement park and popular YouTuber MrBeast was also on hand for the opening of his eponymous burger restaurant inside the mall, which drew a crowd of thousands.

Adam Sandler at Lokl Café, Morristown

Adam Sandler, the funny man and actor who is known for creating comedy gold, proved he still can draw quite the crowd when the community came out in droves in August in Morris County in hopes to be part of the eagerly anticipated film “Happy Gilmore 2.”

Thousands filled the streets near the Hyatt Regency in Morristown for an opening casting call to appear in the sequel to Sandler’s 1996 hit comedy. The sequel is garnering quite the hype; Kansas City Chiefs tight end (and beau of Taylor Swift) Travis Kelce is making a cameo appearance in the new film.

So it wouldn’t be that surprising that Sandler would be spotted at some point or another, being that scenes are expected to be filmed across the state from September through November. But locals likely didn’t expect he’d just show up at a local café. Twice.

Wearing a Hawaiian shirt and baggy basketball shorts (seemingly a signature outfit for him), Sandler was spotted on Monday at Lokl Café on South Street in Morristown grabbing a coffee. An employee shared a selfie with Sandler, who threw up a peace sign, on social media. The comedy king then returned to the same shop next day.

While unclear why he was there, it’s likely he was scoping out spots in anticipation for filming to kick off soon across the Garden State. Who knows where the comedian, actor and director will appear next?

While casting for extras already took place, Grant Wilfley Casting, the talent agency coordinating the event, is still casting for multiple background spots in the film. On Sept. 2, the agency put out a casting call for a “young Adam Sandler photo double” for filming in the “New Jersey area” from September through November. The agency is also seeking to cast a brunette baby girl and a white male who is between 7-feet and 7-feet 8-inches tall (yes, you read that right).

Celebrities coming to a bookstore near you

Big fan of reality TV show “Vanderpump Rules” or perhaps old school sitcoms from the ’80s, like “Growing Pains,” are more your speed?

Well, bring on the celebrities! Bookends, a book store on East Ridgewood Avenue in Ridgewood, is known for playing host to a slew of celebrities, often to promote their new books. In the coming days, you will have a chance to see them in-person.

Stassi Schroeder, star of the popular Bravo TV show “Vanderpump Rules,” will be signing her new book “You Can’t Have it All” on Sept. 11. Kirk Cameron, who played teen actor Mike Seaver on the ABC sitcom “Growing Pains,” will appear for a book signing on Sept. 14. Cameron, a producer and conservative activist, will be signing his new book “Born to Be Brave.”

Kenny G will also be popping by the book store on Sept. 24 and “Happy Days” star Henry “The Fonz” Winkler will make an appearance in October.

Earlier this week, the bookstore was host to U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly, a retired astronaut and United States Navy captain who is married to former Rep. Gabby Giffords. In June, Joan Baez, music icon and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, showed up to sign her latest book.

So whether it’s planned or not, you might just be able to catch a glimpse — or maybe even grab a selfie — with a celebrity in North Jersey sometime soon. Just play it cool.
