HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – For “Better World Day,” students at the Explorer Academy walked along a brand new trail that carries a loving memory.

This trail is dedicated to Leta White, a former staff member who passed away.

Mary Svingos, assistant principal, says along with White’s passion for helping students — she also carried a love for nature.

A Huntington High School student helped create this trail as part of his Eagle Scout project.

AJ Irby says it took about two months to complete– spending every weekend working on carving out the trail, clearing debris and making it safe.

”I just feel so accomplished. It’s very exciting to see the kids’ faces when they are walking the trail and actually helped with the trail as well,” Irby said.

The principal says the trail is open to the community from dawn until dusk.
