Stylist Felicity Kay Breaks Down Nicholas Galitzine’s ‘Classic’ and ‘Youthful’ Style
With his press tours for “Mary & George” and “The Idea of You,” Nicholas Galitzine has shown his style is just as noteworthy as his acting skills.
The 29-year-old actor has had a banner year with his two buzzy projects, which have given him multiple opportunities to showcase his classic, yet youthful menswear style on the red carpet. For his appearances Galitzine has worked with stylist Felicity Kay, who linked up with the actor right as the SAG-AFTRA strike started last summer.
The stylist and actor were gearing up for his first major press tour for the film “Red, White & Royal Blue” last summer, but had to scrap their plans when the strike started. Nonetheless, Kay explained, she was able to develop a close relationship with Galitzine, which helped her develop a styling strategy.
“Given that we had the delay of him being out for what would have been one of his first major press tours with ‘Red, White & Royal Blue,’ there’s this real sense of people getting to see him and to represent his style and his taste,” Kay said. “He is really authentically into fashion himself and I’m just working closely with him to bring his interest in fashion to the forefront.”
Kay said Galitzine’s style is anchored in classic menswear, but has a youthful feel to it through modern details. She worked closely with Galitzine to evoke a “slight pace change” between the two press tours to be able to reflect his roles in both projects.
“’Mary & George,’ was a period drama, so [we were] leaning into the romance,” Kay said. “There was a lot of shirting, blousy and collarless [styles] and dramatic shapes. And then with ‘The Idea of You,’ [there was] this idea of being this pop star character and musician character, so leaning into that a bit more.”
For the “Mary & George” premiere in March, Galitzine leaned into the romance with a Coach oversize, double-breasted wool tuxedo jacket with duchess satin lapels from the brand’s fall 2024 collection. Galitzine accessorized the look with a small gold earring and brooch. The oversize jacket was also meant to add a layer of drama.
Galitzine stuck with the oversize look for the premiere of “The Idea of You” last month, where he continued his relationship with Fendi by wearing a custom gray suit.
The actor has leaned into a youthful style during previous red carpets. In November, Galitzine attended the GQ Men of the Year Awards wearing a fitted black blazer and undershirt from Fendi’s spring 2024 men’s collection.
He gave a playful spin on black-tie attire at the Academy Museum Gala in December, wearing a custom Fendi black paillette-embellished suit jacket and matching pleated trousers.
Galitzine’s next red carpet appearance is expected to be at Monday night’s Met Gala. Kay stayed mum on specifics of the look, but said “it’s very true to him.”
“At the core of it, [his style is] quite classic menswear, but we like to add a subtle element of fashion, whether we’re playing with proportions or like an interesting textured knit or slightly off shoes,” Kay said. “He’s not someone who follows trends for the sake of it. He’s someone who is more interested in elevated classics, but it’s my job to bring a twist to that.”
