Suicide Squad Is Already Being Given Away For Free On PC During Prime Day

Roughly six months after it launched, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League can be yours for free under two conditions: you have an Amazon Prime subscription, and a gaming PC that can handle it. Rocksteady’s infamously maligned loot masher is one of three surprise games the company is giving away for Prime Day 2024.

Between July 16 and 18, Prime members can go to the Amazon Prime gaming page and claim Suicide Squad, Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration, and Chivalry 2 to keep from the Epic Games Store. For anyone unfamiliar, Rise of the Tomb Raider was the surprisingly good middle entry in the reboot trilogy, that went overlooked at the time because it began life as an Xbox One exclusive. Those three are now in addition to the 15 other free games that Amazon has been giving away leading up to Prime Day 2024 including Hitman Absolution, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2.

While Suicide Squad has a ton of problems, it’s not all bad, and I bet more than a few people are morbidly curious to see why some devoted fans swear by it and why so many others treat it like the biggest gaming car wreck of the year. I actually enjoy the combat, which is more of a rhythm brawler than a true shooter. The mission variety, character progression, and loot is all mostly a bummer though. But there are some really cool, polished cinematic moments—the kind you’d expect from the makers of the Batman: Arkham trilogy—even if the story ends abruptly and its final conclusion appears to be trapped inside a live-service roadmap that’s on life support.

Suicide Squad was supposed to get its second free seasonal update this week that introduced Mrs. Freeze as a playable character, but the update was delayed at the last minute until the end of July. And despite reportedly being a $200 million flop, Rocksteady Studios has confirmed it plans to finish the game’s slate of currently announced post-launch content, which could take it at least through next summer. In the meantime, the team appears to be pitching single-player projects like the ones that made it famous in the first-place.
