Summer Jobs: Companies with openings, avoiding fake postings, and a Heartland resource
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — With Summer jobs opening up across the Heartland, it’s a great time for those looking for a short-term gig to start applying.
They’re an opportunity for adults looking for employment and teens looking for some extra income before school starts back up.
Some organizations, like colleges, schools and daycares, have layoffs while school’s out.
Others, like city departments, MoDOT and certain fast food companies, try to hire more people to accommodate the additional activities, projects, and customer flow that summer brings.
With new openings, you may see some postings that look too good to be true. When applying for a job, especially online, make sure the posting is from a legitimate company for a real position.
Some companies post ghost job openings to collect a larger talent pool, often without even having an opening.
Other postings can be from fake companies and could be harmful to your personal information.
While seasonal, contract and even part-time work is often temporary, some employers will retain your services full-time if its the right fit.
The Kirksville Job Center is a great resource to have your resume looked over.
They’ll also take you through mock interviews and figure out what jobs best fit your career interests and skills.
