Summerville sees holiday shopping surge amid festive events

Downtown Summerville is bustling with holiday shoppers, thanks in part to the town’s recent Christmas Tree lighting event. Donna Soto, an employee at Everything Chic, said the store has seen a significant increase in customers eager to complete their Christmas shopping.

“Everything has been so amazing,” Soto said. “We’ve had so many people come in and come out to visit with the Christmas Tree lighting the other night. It’s just been great business.”

The town’s Public Information Officer, Chris Makowski, said Summerville is working to expand shopping options for residents while supporting existing businesses.

“We’re looking to enhance business and bring more businesses into town to avoid having to drive, let’s just say, Charleston, also North Charleston to go shop,” Makowski said.

Summerville is known for its small-town charm, even as it experiences rapid growth. Makowski emphasized the importance of maintaining this charm while attracting visitors.

“A lot of people visit Summerville just for its small-town charm,” Makowski said. “I’m positive that many people do come to shop here and just enjoy the Summerville Way.”

Soto noted that the influx of shoppers includes people from various locations, all drawn by the festive atmosphere.

“People coming from all over. It’s been really fun. Meeting a lot of new people too,” Soto said. “Everybody comes with such a positive energy and so festive. And excited to be able to celebrate with their family and friends. And we’re happy that we could give a little help on finding the perfect gift for their friends and family.”
