Sumter County Welcome Center hosts event celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week

CUBA, Ala. (WTOK) – The Sumter County Welcome Center hosted an event to celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week.

National Travel and Tourism Week is an annual celebration that highlights tourism and its essential role in the country’s economy.

The state of Alabama has eight welcome centers in the state that provide an array of information and maps of the state.

The Sumter County Welcome Center manager, Gerlena Hale, said these welcome centers provide a great service for travelers.

“The importance is our doors are always open for you know, for the tourists. We are always here to meet and greet and our first, priority is to say when you come in our doors is welcome to Alabama. We want you to come in, you know, feel comfortable. relax, you know, sit back and enjoy yourself. Whether it be inside or outside, we are here. Anytime you need us,” said Hale.

The event on Wednesday included various booths with information on different cities in the state, giveaways, music, and food.

The Sumter County Welcome Center is open from 8 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
