From making history as the first Asian American to win the Olympic all-around gold medal in women’s gymnastics to making waves in the fashion world, Sunisa Lee is now flipping into a new arena and redefining her next chapter.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist has recently hinted at a potential career shift as she steps into the spotlight in the realm of fashion. After bringing home a gold and two bronze medals from the 2024 Paris Olympics, Lee celebrated her New York Fashion Week debut in a stunning Prada outfit.

Gracing the recent Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in a beautiful ensemble, Lee further showcased her fashion-forward talents and captured the attention of the fashion world. Donning an elegant floral dress to the show, her outfit reflected the grace and strength she embodies as an individual.

Using her outfits as an extension of her personality is a characteristic of Lee’s, who has even designed some of the leotards she’s worn in competition, as per a social post from Inside Gym.

“‘She’s fun, she’s energetic, outgoing, very brave,’ Lee says when asked to describe herself. ‘But not a lot of people see that, and it’s something that I want to expand on more. I think fashion can be a really good way to express yourself,’” according to an interview with Inside Gym.

This creative expression has allowed Lee to channel her experiences and emotions into her clothing, making each piece not just a fashion statement but a reflection of her journey. As she transitions from the gym to the red carpet, Lee’s commitment to self-expression through fashion becomes even more pronounced.

Her pivot to fashion follows her opening up about the physical and mental toll gymnastics has taken on her. Joining her friend and teammate Simone Biles in the conversation about athletes’ mental health, Lee has shared the challenges she has faced, including managing imposter syndrome and anxiety attacks.

In 2022, Lee opened up to ESPN about the taxing nature of rigorous training and the pressure that comes with being an elite athlete at just 21 years old.

The sport has also shaped her body, raising concerns about her physical health. According to Sportskeeda, she is apprehensive about participating in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles due to the strain the sport has placed on her body.

Lee is no stranger to overcoming adversity, having battled two incurable kidney diseases before competing in the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Her resilience and strength shine through in her bold career moves and new endeavors.

According to Glamour, Lee is already making bold strides in the fashion industry, working on beauty campaigns with brands like Cotton x LoveShackFancy and L’Oréal.

As the first Hmong American Olympic athlete has established herself as an incredibly versatile and accomplished gymnast, earning six Olympic medals. Now, her versatility is expanding beyond gymnastics with her budding career in fashion.
