Sunshine Sticks Around Another Day Before Slick Travel Conditions Tomorrow
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) – Good Thursday morning everyone! It’s another bright and sunny morning, however it has been paired once again with some chilly temperatures. With wind chills also being a factor, you will want to dress for the teens as you head out the door.
The dome of high pressure that has been driving the sunshine into the region is now weakening and moving up to our northeast. While we can expect the sunshine to continue today, we are watching two systems that will likely bring us some slick travel conditions going into tomorrow morning. The latest computer model guidance has been trending at the two systems interacting with each other and becoming one keeping shower chances in the forecast through Saturday.
Temperatures this afternoon stay seasonable reaching the low 40s. Going hour by hour for you, it will be a very similar setup to what we had seen play out yesterday where a few thinner high level clouds will pass over areas to the far north. Because cloud cover won’t likely increase until early tomorrow morning, temperatures will fall back towards the low 20s.
Because overnight lows will be below the freezing mark and it will take a while to reach our highs, we are watching for some slick travel conditions tomorrow morning as this system starts in the form of freezing rain. While ice accumulations are expected to be nothing more than a glaze, anything will be enough to cause some slick travel conditions. This has also resulted in the National Weather Service issuing a Winter Weather Advisory which in now in place through the mid morning hours. Make sure you are giving yourself plenty of extra time on the roads for your commute. Thankfully we will be quick to make the transition over to rain by the late morning. Unfortunately, this will also set us up for a dreary first half of the weekend.
