Suspect arrested in string of Montgomery business burglaries
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – A man is in custody in connection to a series of business burglaries in midtown Montgomery thanks to what acting Police Chief John Hall called “good old fashioned police work.”
Police say several businesses in the area of Narrow Lane Road and Carter Hill Road were hit by a burglar in the last few days. Hall said after businesses reported the crimes, the department sent officers and shift supervisors to the area to investigate.
Police targeted their suspect in Traychristion Sankey, 19, of Montgomery. He was arrested Thursday and charged with four counts of third-degree burglary and one count of second-degree theft of property. County jail records show bail for each count is $7,500, making a total of $37,500.
Hall explained how officers solved the case so quickly by “doing what they were supposed to do.” He said officers responding to the latest call THursday canvassed the area, found Sankey hiding and got him into custody without incident.
“Because they did it right, they were able to go back, make contact with the victims and the property owners, and view video and confirm this is the suspect that just broke into all these businesses,” he said.
Hall said his officers are doing work like this area day to keep Montgomery safe, and they rely on the public to call in tips to help them. Suspicious activity may be called in to the Montgomery Police Department at 334-241-2651 or Central Alabama CrimeStoppers at 334-215-7867. Call 911 for emergencies.
