Suspect dead in DEA-involved shooting in West Palm Beach

A suspect is dead after being shot by a DEA agent outside a West Palm Beach shopping center on Friday evening, the federal agency confirmed.

Few details have been released about the confrontation. The shooting spurred a large-scale police response that saw dozens of law enforcement officers descend on the location along Okeechobee Boulevard, just west of the I-95 interchange.

The scene is secure and there is no threat to the community, a spokesperson for the DEA’s Miami Field Division assured.

The agency described the encounter as “an authorized law enforcement action,” but it did not indicate what led to the deadly shooting. The DEA did not identify the suspect, nor did it provide any information about the investigation that led to Friday’s events.

West Palm Beach Police Department Chief Frank Adderly, whose officers were all over the scene after the shooting, explained they were there to assist the federal agents because the encounter happened in their city.
