Suspect in deadly fight outside Jefferson City business indicted for murder

The grand jury in Cole County indicted a Jefferson City man for murder in connection with a fight outside a tap room that left one person dead.

Kamari Balton, 26, faces one count of second-degree murder for the death of Rafael Ayala, 49, which allegedly happened outside Twisted Chicks on Aug. 17, according to the Cole County prosecutor. Jefferson City police announced Balton’s arrest for the incident outside the business on Industrial Drive on Sept. 13.

According to the indictment, Balton hit Ayala in the head with a closed fist. Police said that when officers arrived, Ayala was unconscious. He later died at University Hospital in Columbia, police said.

Balton was arrested in Platte County and is currently in the Cole County Jail. He has a bond hearing scheduled for Sept. 23 and an arraignment scheduled for Oct. 22.
