TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A major intersection on Airport Highway at S. Main Street is closed for the final phase of Swanton’s sewer separation project. Area business owners tell 13 Action News they worry for their storefronts while traffic is limited.

“If there’s somebody, you know, who doesn’t know that we’re here looking for us and they’re not able to get down Main Street from Airport Highway, they might not be able to find us,” Cat Kania, owner of CK Sweets said

One convenience store owner told 13 Action News he heavily relies on that flow of traffic.

“People that pass by and they see there’s a convenient store,” Kamran Durrani, owner of Stop by Mart, said. he says that many people will say, “It’s summer, let’s have some cold drinks and some snacks on the way.”

The intersection will be closed for 30 days while the project is completed. But, some business owners say this is long enough to have a negative impact on their business.

Durrani said he still has bills to pay and overhead costs, but he expects fewer customers to shop at his store because of the road closure. He says his customers are the only way he can make money.

The Swanton Chamber of Commerce is urging people on social media to support local area businesses during this time.
