Sydney Sweeney hits back at body shamers with powerful workout video
Sydney Sweeney has hit back at body shamers criticising her appearance online by posting a video montage of her intense workouts.
The Euphoria star, 27, recently debuted a more muscular physique for an upcoming biopic of professional female boxer Christy Martin, who rose to prominence in the ’90s, and who was elected to the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2020.
In the Instagram video, the actress opened with a spate of comment clips made about her body.
‘Without artifice (makeup, filter and photoshop), she is really ugly!’ was one of the first nasty remarks, while another comment read: ‘She knocked up? Stung by a nest of wasps? Dive into a swimming pool full of donuts and chips?’
‘Too pale and she needs to lose a few pounds around the middle,’ another commenter said, as others called her, ‘yet again another zero,’ ‘kinda dumpy,’ ‘certainly not attractive,’ ‘preggo’ and ‘butterface’.
‘She is extraordinarily average,’ one person wrote, with another insisting they, ‘had a better body at 37 before I got pregnant with my youngest’.
It’s not the first time Sydney has been open about the vitriol directed towards her. Speaking to Vanity Fair in November, she remarked: ‘I’m just trying my best over here. Why am I getting attacked?
‘It’s very disheartening to see women tear other women down, especially when women who are successful in other avenues of their industry see younger talent working really hard – hoping to achieve whatever dreams that they may have – and then trying to bash and discredit any work that they’ve done. This entire industry, all people say is “Women empowering other women.” None of it’s happening. All of it is fake and a front for all the other shit that they say behind everyone’s back.’
In October, she took to social to release new images of her strength transformation, sharing: ‘Well, the cat’s out of the bag thanks to some paps in bushes, so here’s a little BTS from my film I’m working on right now.
‘Over the past few months, I’ve been immersed in training to bring to life the story of an incredible woman – a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring. Her journey is a testament to resilience, strength, and hope, and I’m honoured to step into her shoes to share her powerful story with you all.’
