Tallahassee residents get ‘Amped’ up for grand opening of new gym

The dawn of a new fitness frenzy is soon to be on the horizon in the capital with the arrival of Amped Fitness.

At 4 p.m. Thursday, the quickly growing franchise will celebrate the grand opening of its 20th location, 1574 Governor’s Square Blvd.

Gym patrons can enjoy the first day at the new center free of cost with a Zumba class, live DJ and local vendors to accompany the ambiance of modernity, through the incorporation of neon-hued lights decorating the facility, and comfort Amped Fitness strives for.

District Front Desk Manager Kiara Sandy has eagerly assisted the new team with opening day endeavors in Tallahassee, as she’s spent the last two months away from her home in Fort Lauderdale. Sandy describes the establishment of a new Amped Fitness club in different cities as ‘unmatched.’

“When I’m at a location for a new club, I train the team,” Sandy said while overseeing operations at the Tallahassee location, now cluttered with moving equipment in preparation for Thursday’s opening.

“I make sure everyone knows the ins, the outs, any computer work, who we are and what our culture is. Then when opening day comes we have a party.”

While the Tallahassee location, replacing the former Bed, Bath & Beyond, was acquired just about 90 days ago, the new team has been preparing diligently for the last month for a successful operation to kick off the summer.

In 2016, CEO Travis Labazzo opened the first official location for Amped Fitness in downtown St. Petersburg, Florida. By February 2023, the company opened its 13th location. But with evolving goals and the stride to reach global success, Labazzo and co-owner Stephen Thomas made the decision to begin franchising.

The Florida-based business has already begun expanding to other states with two locations in Alabama. Sandy says within the last three months, five new locations have emerged. Now, the brand is looking to show its home state’s capital what Amped Fitness is all about.

“We want to bring the best to people in every city,” Sandy said. “Every city deserves to have a fitness center where they can feel comfortable. And, every city deserves a fitness center that truly cares about them.”

“Tallahassee holds a special place in our heart, especially for a few of our general managers, who went to school in Tallahassee and grew up in Tallahassee. So, Tallahassee was always on the radar,” Sandy said.

Amped Fitness has two membership plans with monthly billing. The basic plan starts at $14.99 a month, including 24/7 access to limited amenities. The VIP Plus plan is $19.99, which includes 24/7 full access to the gym’s amenities and childcare.

Amped Fitness offers a plethora of services. In addition to main club access, there is a sauna, tanning beds, cross-training area, abs & glutes boxing zone, and a women’s only ‘Babe Cave.’ Patrons can attend group or one on one classes, along with virtual fitness options. Finally, it’s open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
