Tar Heel Sports Network Announces Broadcast Team for 2024 Carolina Football Season
Chapel Hill, NC (August 28, 2024) – Learfield’s Tar Heel Sports Properties announced today that former Tar Heels Joe Jauch and Bryn Renner will serve as color analysts for University of North Carolina (UNC) football games this fall on the Tar Heel Sports Network. Jauch and Renner will join the Voice of the Tar Heels, Jones Angell, in the radio booth following Brian Simmons’ move to a full-time role on the Carolina Football staff where he serves as a Special Advisor to Head Coach Mack Brown.
Additionally, Tar Heel Football letterman Na’ Brown will serve as a co-host alongside Dave Nathan on the Tar Heel Sports Network’s pre and post-game shows. Brown takes the place of Tar Heel great Deems May, who voluntarily stepped aside after more than 20 seasons on the Network.
Joe Jauch, a member of Mack Brown’s first recruiting class at Carolina in 1988, has experience on the Tar Heel Sports Network having filled in as an analyst over the past two seasons. Jauch played five years in the Canadian Football League for the Hamilton Tiger Cats after his time at Carolina and has served as a broadcaster for ESPN since 2018.
“I’m thankful Mack Brown gave me the opportunity to become a student-athlete at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill,” said Jauch. “After receiving my degree in Radio & Television and now sitting beside Jones Angell, it is truly a dream come true. Go Heels!”
Bryn Renner, a three-year starting quarterback for UNC, set the school record for the most 300-yard passing games in a career and twice broke the record for the most passing touchdowns in program history. His career completion percentage of 66.5% remains the highest in Carolina history. Following his record-breaking collegiate career, Renner spent time in the NFL, playing for the Denver Broncos, Baltimore Ravens, Tennessee Titans, San Diego Chargers, and Pittsburgh Steelers.
“I’m incredibly grateful to the Tar Heel Sports Network for giving me the opportunity to join Jones Angell and the team in the booth this fall,” remarked Renner. “I’m excited to learn from everyone and bring my best to the fans, just as I did every Saturday when I stepped behind center for the Tar Heels!”
Na’ Brown, who played for the Tar Heels from 1995 to 1999 and remains in the top 10 for all-time receptions, was selected in the 4th round of the 1999 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, where he played until 2004. Brown is a North Carolina native born in Reidsville, N.C.
“I’m finally back home where it all began,” said Brown. “Very excited to join the Tar Heel Sports radio team and to share UNC football with my UNC family. I can’t wait to turn the mic on.”
“I’m so excited to work with this incredible stable of analysts during this upcoming season,” said Jones Angell, Voice of the Tar Heels. “To have multiple players from different eras, all of whom had a high level of success at Carolina and in professional football, means Tar Heel fans can hear expert opinions and analysis before, during and after the game on the Tar Heel Sports Network. Our goal is providing an accurate, entertaining and informative listening experience on game day and Joe, Bryn, Na’ and Jeff will help us do just that.”
This fall fans will also continue to hear from Tar Heel legend Jeff Saturday as he returns as a regular contributor with a weekly interview segment with Jones Angell and Lee Pace is back serving as the network’s sideline reporter.
“We are excited and proud to announce these former Tar Heels to the Carolina Football radio team,” said Chuck Schroeder, Vice President and General Manager of Tar Heel Sports Properties. “Each of these men will offer their unique perspectives and our listeners will hear their deep understanding of the game and Carolina Athletics. They all love this place, and we look forward to bringing their expertise and passion for Carolina Football to our listeners this fall.”
