Teachers to reapply for jobs under west El Paso school’s new redesign plan

The El Paso School District announced that teachers at one of its schools will need to reapply for their positions as part of a new initiative.

EPISD is implementing the Murphree Pre-K through 8 Redesign, which is funded by a grant from the Texas Education Agency, to enhance student excellence.

EPISD said it will collaborate with the community to improve programs and address specific needs.

However, as part of the redesign, EPISD will recruit teachers, requiring current staff to reapply for their jobs.

EPISD assured that those not rehired will be offered alternative placements within the district.

EPISD pointed to the “successful transformation” of Canyon Hills Middle School, saying that the school went through a similar redesign in 2022.

According to EPISD, Canyon Hills MS saw a double-digit increase in its TEA accountability ratings, making it the third highest-scoring middle school in the district, following Wiggs and Hornedo.
