Tech hosts runway production to showcase fashion
by Hannah Singh
Louisiana Tech presented a world of fashion last Thursday night at the “Livin’ Loud” Runway Production held at the Davison Athletics Complex. Presented by the LA Tech Fashion Merchandising and Retail Studies Program, models sported outfits from various designers from the university and local vendors.
In the first walk of the night, models displayed outfits sponsored by 11 local vendors. These looks included casual, formal, semi-formal and western wear for both men and women.
Junior computer science major, Christy Tran modeled a yellow dress with a flowing green layered skirt. She accessorized with pink feathered earrings, silver sparkling shoes and a silver necklace and belt. Tran found out about the modeling opportunity from the school bulletin board and wanted to take a chance on something a bit outside of her comfort zone.
“My favorite part of this experience was getting to see the creativity of the outfits that were put together and learning about everyone through their personal style,” Tran said. “I’m very grateful I got to be a part of a special event like this that allowed so many people to shine.”
Many of the outfits presented throughout the night were designed by Louisiana Tech’s runway production class. The “Spirit of Tech” design category featured the works of 25 different student designers. The outfits represented various aspects of Louisiana Tech life and school spirit, including the bulldog, lady of the mist and the blue and red school colors.
The “Personal and Repurposed Designs” category also highlighted the works created by the runway production class. Designers were asked to take a final walk down the runway behind the models showing off their personal designs.
Freshman fashion merchandising and retail studies major Hannah Reeder designed two looks for the fashion show. Her first design was created for the Spirit of Tech Category, which featured game day inspired clothing from the brand “Queen of Sparkles.” The second outfit, worn by model Sadie Brown, was a jacket covered in rainbow tinsel paired with jeans decorated in pearls. The theme of the second outfit was “Taylor Swift.”
“Being able to express my style and showcase my personality through designs is what I’m passionate about,” Reeder said. “I enjoyed showing the community what the fashion program at tech has to offer. We all have different styles and being able to showcase that was extremely fun.”
The runway night offered design students the opportunity to show off their personal styles and the designs they had worked on throughout the semester. The LA Tech community once again proved how talented the Bulldogs can be.
