Teenagers with World Changers are in Panama City giving back

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – More than 100 volunteers with World Changers are in Panama City this week to give back.

The nonprofit organization is offering its time to assist low-income families with home improvement by painting, installing handicap ramps, building fences, and more.

The volunteers include middle and high school students from all over the country and chaperones.

The program is a partnership with World Changers, The City of Panama City and several churches including First Baptist Church of Panama City and Macedonia Baptist Church.

The nonprofit provides the volunteers to do the labor, the city provides the materials to get the job done and the churches provide the volunteers food and a place to stay.

14-year-old Warren Hagan came from Kentucky to serve.

“It makes me feel amazing,” Hagan said. “Because they probably don’t have people accessible to where they can help them like grandkids.”

Saige Wimberly, 17, came from Texas to offer her time.

“We’re representing Christ,” Wimberly said. “It’s a really cool experience to meet people who have the same beliefs as you and want to help people. As kids, our time is what we have.”

“On this house, we’re re-siding the whole house, and then we’ll paint it. we’re doing a lot of painting, handicap ramps, siding a little bit of landscaping just whatever the landscaper needs.”

First Baptist Church of Panama City Ministry Pastor David Flatt said the group’s mission is to show the love of God.

“We believe that Christ has done so much for us,” Flatt said. “We want to show his love to other people “

There are 23 projects across the nation. This week volunteers will be in Panama City, FL, Cleveland, OH, Mayfield, KY, and Boone, NC.
