Tennessee fashion event to feature first model in a wheelchair

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – A new model in the Luxe Style Fashion Week in Nashville later this month is hoping to inspire you to chase your dreams, no matter your struggle.

At just 36-years-old, Kim Brock has quite the resume.

“Born with cerebral palsy, I’ve never let my disability to find or limit my life,” said Brock. “I home school my two beautiful daughters: Madeline is 11 years old, and Maggie May is six years old. I also serve as a council member for the South Carolina Developmental Disabilities Council.”

She’s always looking for her next challenge. When Brock discovered pageantry, she gained a new voice as Ms. Southeastern Wheelchair USA.

“The success and recognition I’ve experienced has meant so much to me,” Brock said. “It is more than just title and crowns. It’s about amplifying my voice and representing people with disabilities in a way that breaks stereotypes.”

Brock is on a roll. Earlier this year, she was one of the first models in a wheelchair to strut down the runway for New York Fashion Week; she’s about to do it again, this time in the Music City. It’s an honor she’s using to shine the spotlight on inclusivity.

“I hope that it sparks further conversations about accessibility and diversity in fashion, while also inspiring others to pursue their dreams no matter the challenges they face,” Brock said. “I hope to encourage people, especially those with disabilities, to embrace their uniqueness and pursue their passions.”

One of Brock’s passions is fitness. When she’s not on stage, she’s walking, hiking, biking or swimming.

“Too often, people with disabilities are overlooked when it comes to fitness and wellness, and I want to change that narrative. My message is simple. Wellness is for everyone. Being active can be transformative. Not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. And everyone deserves to experience the benefits of an active lifestyle,” said Brock.

After her catwalk appearance at the Luxe Style Fashion Week on Nov. 17, Brock said she plans to visit every state she represents to inspire those she advocates for.

“For me, it’s about showing people that beauty comes in all forms, and that every person, regardless of ability, should have the opportunity to shine,” Brock said.
