Tennis Performs Well in Weekend UTR Sports College Circuit – Western Carolina University

Cullowhee, N.C. – Competing in its first non-championship season event of the fall, Western Carolina women’s tennis players Andrea Redondo and Angela  Perez dominated the competition as WCU hosted the UTR Sports College Circuit this weekend at the Catamount Athletic Complex.

Perez highlighted the Catamount efforts as she won the individual crown for the weekend, earning three victories in straight sets in individual play. The senior from Spain cruised in her first two rounds posting consecutive scores of 6-1 in the quarterfinals ahead of scoring a win 6-1, 6-0 in the semifinal round.

Her finals matchup proved to be more difficult initially as Perez was pushed in the first set, before claiming the lead with a 7-5 victory to open play. She then took the individual title with a 4-0 victory in set two.

Additionally, the Catamount pairing of Perez and Andrea Redondo went undefeated in the doubles portion of the event, taking an 8-1 win in their first-round matchup. The duo then followed up their round two bye with an 8-3 victory for a 2-0 record on the day.

Contributing to the Catamount’s success on the day was Dasha Osadova, who picked up a straight-set win 6-2, 6-2 scores in the round-robin portion of the event.
