This weekend, Cody Conrod and Cooper Smith, participated in the global Fortnite Championship Series and, with their partners, finished among the top 20.
The 18th edition of the global event featured a $2 million prize pool.
The championship kicked off with 50 duos from 18 countries walking into the arena, including Conrod, 19, of Dallas and his teammate, Harry “Veno” Pearson, 19, of the United Kingdom.
Walking out on stage with them was 10-year-old Max Acuto, who is battling leukemia. Max’s dream was to meet Conrod, and he was able to do so through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
“It was a dream come true to have someone choose me as their make a wish. Especially for someone like Max whose story is so inspirational! I played every game with his star pinned to my jersey,” said Conrod.
Conrod and Pearson finished 11th at the tournament and claimed a $30,000 prize, according the final standings.
Smith, 17, of Austin and his partner, 19-year-old Leon “Khanada” Khim finished 20th, taking with them a $10,000 prize.
The event had a peak online viewership of 794,288, the third-highest viewership for a Fortnite competitive event of all time, according to the release.
