Texas kicks off Tax-Free Weekend for back-to-school shopping

Friday marks the beginning of Tax-Free Weekend in Texas.

Many parents and teachers utilize Tax-Free Weekend to prepare for the school year.

From midnight Aug. 9 through 11:59 p.m. on August 11, shoppers can purchase school supplies and clothes without paying sales tax.

Items eligible during that weekend include school supplies, most clothing, footwear, and backpacks less than $100.

According to the Texas Comptroller’s Office, for every $100 spent, shoppers save about $8 in local sales tax.
