Texas Rural Woman’s Grant available for rural woman-owned businesses

CANYON, Texas (KFDA) – Texas Woman’s University has offered the opportunity for small, woman-owned businesses to receive a grant to take on new projects.

“Especially being a woman business owner, not only are you trying to manage just family life, a work/life balance and your personal life. This grant is actually rewarding those that have had a business, that are working their business, and that actually would benefit from a little extra grant money,” said Stephanie Tucker, executive director for Canyon Economic Development Corp.

A total of 10 grants totaling $5,000 each are available for certain small counties in this first round of funding.

“Small businesses are fun and they’re great but it does take a lot of equity up front to be able to do so, so a small business grant like this would be a huge boost to anyone to be able to get this started. Especially for women who might not have that backing because they have taken off to be moms,” said Dallas Bell, owner of Burrowing Owl Bookstore.

The goal of this grant is to encourage small, woman-owned businesses to expand and give back to their communities.

“It makes the community richer, it gives more opportunities for people to shop here and shop locally and not have to invest their dollars elsewhere. It just makes for a richer community and experiences,” said Laci Murray, general manager for Blessed Buffalo & WT Fan Gear.

The application for the grant opens on May 28 and closes July 5.
