The 49ers will travel the fifth-most miles in the NFL in 2024
As we prepare for the NFL to release the full schedule Wednesday night, which isn’t based on rumors, we already know where the San Francisco 49ers are playing.
In 2024, the 49ers will travel the fifth-most miles in the NFL. The mileage was calculated using the linear air distance between each stadium and includes the five NFL international games this season.
It’s no surprise that teams on each coast travel the most every season. That’s no different this season. Here are the top five teams based on total mileage traveled:
Los Angeles Chargers – 26,803
Miami Dolphins – 25,797
Seattle Seahawks – 25,797
New England Patriots – 25,071
San Francisco 49ers – 24,575
The 49ers will travel through 28 time zones this upcoming season, which is the third-highest after the Chargers and Las Vegas Raiders.
When the travel occurs is what’s relevant. If the schedule leaks are accurate, the 49ers travel to Seattle on a Thursday night for Week 6, then have a mini-bye week against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7 and stay home in Week 8 for Sunday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys.
On the flip side, the Niners would allegedly travel to Green Bay and Buffalo in back-to-back weeks during the winter months in cold-weather cities. Given their upcoming travel, it would make sense for the 49ers to have a bye week between Weeks 9 and 11.
