The Best Military Travel Discounts for Your Holiday Getaway

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. And in between shopping for gifts for friends and family, many U.S. service members are also planning holidays getaways. Whether we’re visiting loved ones far away or we just want to hop on a plane to find warmer weather, travel is always more fun when arriving at our destination using great deals.

The following military discounts can be used for airline flights and baggage, hotel rooms, car rentals and even that luxurious cruise you’ve always dreamed about. Don’t forget to have your military ID with you as you’ll likely be asked for proof of military service when checking in.

Happy holiday travel!

Airlines

Southwest offers discounts to active-duty military personnel and their families on flights, while Alaska Airlines, Allegiant, American Airlines and United all offer military deals on checked baggage. Delta and JetBlue both offer special military savings on flights as well as deals on checked baggage.

Keep in mind that you may need to call the airline directly in order to cash in on these deals.

Hotels

The possibilities of lodging seem endless these days, but fortunately many hotels offer military rates, including Best Western, Choice Hotels, Hilton, IHG Hotels & Resorts, Motel 6, Marriott Bonvoy and Wyndham. Even if you’re going the all-inclusive route, some resorts, like Sandals and Beaches, offer military discounts.

Don’t forget to ask for a military discount wherever you stay. You never know if that bed and breakfast you love has an unadvertised deal you can use.

Rental Cars

If your holiday travels require a rental car, check out Hertz, Enterprise, Alamo, SIXT and Thrifty. They all offer military rates on leisure travel.

Cruises

Many cruise lines also offer military discounts on select cruises or onboard spending money, such as Carnival, Celebrity Cruises, Disney Cruise Line, Margaritaville at Sea, MSC Cruises, Norwegian, Princess Cruises and Royal Caribbean.

Remember that when using all of these great deals, there’s always a chance you’ll need to present your military ID at check-in even if you verified your military status online, so don’t forget to pack it!
